Clemson knocks off Alabama for national title

A 2-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Deshaun Watson to Hunter Renfrow in the waning seconds gave the Clemson Tigers its first national championship in football since 1981.

Avenging last year’s defeat, the Tigers knocked off defending champion Alabama, 35-31 late Monday night. The Crimson Tide defeated Clemson in the title game last year, 45-40.

The team is expected to return to the Upstate later this afternoon and a parade has been scheduled for Saturday in downtown Clemson.
