Frontier Airlines will begin flying in and out of Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in September, becoming the sixth airline with service out of GSP.

Dave Edwards, president and CEO of the airport, estimated the economic impact to the region at more than $40 million annually.

Frontier is offering introductory one-way tickets for $34 until midnight June 20.

Tyri Squyres, vice president of marketing for Frontier, emphasized the company’s emphasis on low ticket prices.

“We are on a mission to lower the cost of flying,” said Squyres, who added that Frontier’s presence at the Upstate airport is “good news for people who visit the area and who can now afford to visit the Upstate.”

Flights to Denver, Las Vegas and Orlando will be on the 180-seat Airbus A320. Flights to Tampa will begin in the winter and can be booked in July when Frontier releases its winter schedule.

Edwards said bringing a new airline to the airport is akin to recruiting an industrial employer. The airport waived fees for the first 12 months as an incentive to Frontier.
