AFC opening new clinic to serve Clemson area

American Family Care, a chain of nearly 200 clinics, is opening an urgent care center in Clemson.

The clinic, branded as AFC, opens July 31 in Hartwell Village, a retail center still being built out just beyond Clemson’s city limits in Oconee County.

The medical facility is the 14th AFC to open in South Carolina, according to a news release.

“We are excited to bring American Family Care to Clemson,” Tim Groves, managing member of Upstate Healthcare Holdings, the owner and operator of some of the AFC franchise locations, said in the release. “There has been a lack of easily accessible quality health care in this area for many years. Now, with the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, our services are needed more than ever before.”

Dr. Jeff Harris, a family medicine practitioner with more than 15 years of experience, is heading up AFC Clemson as medical director. The clinic will offer in-office appointments and AFC TeleCare, he said in the news release.

“We will be able to serve the local community, but we have also established a connection with the college (Clemson University) infirmary to provide care for students in situations where the campus cannot. After-hours and weekend hours also will serve as a missing link in local medical care for students,” Harris said in the release

The Clemson clinic is part of an expansion plan for Upstate Healthcare Holdings. It operates locations in Greenville, Powdersville, Boiling Springs, Anderson, Easley, Duncan and Greenwood. The next clinic is set to open in Mauldin in 2021, and there are plans to open up to four additional locations in the Upstate over the next few years, the news release said.
