Greenville’s Homes of Hope and Spartanburg’s Northside Development Group were selected among 357 applicants to receive a grant as part of the TD Charitable Foundation’s annual affordable housing assistance program.

Selected along with 33 organizations, Homes of Hope was awarded $175,000 and the Northside Development Group, a community development organization that serves Spartanburg's neighborhood of the same name, was granted $150,000 for their efforts to mitigate the Upstate’s shortage of affordable housing.

The TD Charitable Foundation serves as the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, which awarded $5.8 million to similar nonprofits across the bank’s Florida-to-Maine service area, according to a news release.  Since 2005, the TD Charitable Foundation has given more than $42 million to nonprofit and charitable organizations through the Housing for Everyone grant competition and has helped support more than 500 affordable housing projects and initiatives.

Homes of Home will use their $175,000 grant to support a pilot partnership program that is expected to provide affordable housing clients a comprehensive services package through a referral to either United Ministries Striving to Thrive or Sunbelt Human Advancement Resource’s Ladder employment training programs.

The grant awarded to Northside Development Group will support the nonprofit’s tenant housing stabilization efforts, including tenant education and landlord insurance programs, which enable participants with a record of credit issues or evictions to rent from participating landlords in the community.

Without resident services from affordable housing providers, like eviction assistance and housing search assistance, many individuals and families will struggle to find or risk losing a safe, affordable place to call home, according to the release.
