Sky Foster, communications manager at BMW Manufacturing, on Friday was named the 2020 S.C. Manufacturers Alliance Woman of the Year at the Palmetto Women’s Manufacturing Forum in Spartanburg.

“Sky Foster has been an incredible leader for South Carolina's manufacturing industry,” Sara Hazzard, CEO and president of the S.C. Manufacturers Alliance, said in a news release. “Her character, values, and commitment for excellence have truly made a meaningful difference for manufacturing and communities throughout our state. We’re proud to recognize Sky’s accomplishments and career with the 2020 SCMA South Carolina Woman of the Year Award.”

Foster was one of the original members of the BMW’s Plant Spartanburg start-up team in 1993. Her career at BMW has included serving as interim vice president of human resources. She has managed compensation, strategic planning, training and recruitment among other human resources responsibilities, according to the release. She also has since served on regional boards including the S.C. Chamber of Commerce board of directors, Automotive Personnel Forum and the United Way of the Piedmont board of directors.

“Women must continue to be visible as leaders and mentors. I have had several mentors during my career who challenged and encouraged me,” Foster said in the release. “I strongly believe it’s important to inspire and encourage the next generation of women in manufacturing.”

Last year, the SCMA Woman of the Year Award was presented to Lou Kennedy, CEO and owner of Nephron Pharmaceuticals.
