YMCA of Greenville raised a record-breaking $1,205,982 for its annual scholarship campaign, making it the largest annual campaign total of any YMCA in the state, according to a news release from the organization.

Over the past 10 years, the YMCA of Greenville has raised more than $8.8 million for the annual campaign, putting 100% of those funds back into the community through scholarships, the news release said. The scholarships help the YMCA ensure that anyone who wants to participate in the Y’s programs or services is able to do so.

“We are thrilled that with the help of our 300 volunteer fundraisers led by the Y’s team, we were able to exceed our 2018 annual campaign goal,” Brian Hamby, annual campaign chairman, said in the news release. “Through the funds raised, the Y can provide more than 8,500 individuals and families scholarships, enabling them to be healthier in spirit, mind and body. This helps to strengthen the wellness of our community, increase the diversity of our relationships, and most importantly, ensures that the Y is open for all.”

“Now, we are able to offer more children a safe and nurturing environment in afterschool, day camp, and summer resident camps where they can learn skills and make new friends,” Scot Baddley, president and CEO, YMCA of Greenville, said in a news release. “More people suffering from Parkinson’s and hypertension can participate in our evidence-based wellness programs to gain health and quality of life back. And, more teens can participate in our statewide Youth in Government program to learn more about democracy, leadership and civil discourse.”

According to the news release, 100% of the funds raised for the annual campaign are used in Greenville County.
