Ticket sales opened Thursday for the annual BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by Synnex Corp., hosted June 1-7, at Thornblade Club and The Cliffs Valley

The tournament has raised $13.6 million for more than 200 local non-profits since 2001 as part of the PGA Tour, according to a news release. The tournament will celebrate its 20th anniversary by supporting six local charities including Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, Prisma Health Children’s Hospital, Roper Mountain Science Center, The Cliffs Residents Outreach, Cancer Society of Greenville County, and the Meyer Center for Special Children

Operated by more than 19,000 volunteers, the event attracts professional athletes, celebrities and a number of out-of-town amateurs to the Upstate every year and supports roughly 139 jobs in the Upstate, according to the news release. The event also brings an estimated $4.7 million to the Upstate through direct spending and $541,048 in net local government revenues, according to the release.

“The 2020 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by Synnex Corp. builds on two decades of giving back to the community through golf and goodwill,” Max Metcalf, BMW’s government and community relations manager. “As we launch ticket sales for 2020, our dedication to raising a record amount of funds for deserving causes in our community is stronger than ever.”

Due to the success of its military and first responder weekend in previous years, the tournament will also raise support for the Upstate Warrior Solution and the Folds of Honor’s Palmetto State Chapter from June 6-7.  Tournament participants will have the opportunity to boost their donation to additional charities through the Birdies for Charity Program by offering a one-time flat donation or giving a set amount per birdie.

Birdies for Charity presented by Michelin North America enables the pros do their part by making hundreds, if not thousands, of birdies during the tournament, which translates into direct contributions to the charities by individuals,” Michael McGovern, BMW Charity Pro-Am director, said in the release. 

As the only Korn Ferry Tour tournament offering amateurs and celebrities an opportunity to play with Korn Ferry professionals over three days, the event will climax with a final round at Thornblade Club for the 12 lowest-scoring amateur and four lowest-scoring celebrity teams.  Professionals who made the final cut will compete for the $700,000 purse at the conclusion of the 72-hole event on Saturday and Sunday.
