The Greenville Drive canceled its 2020 season Tuesday along with other major and minor league teams.

Minor League Baseball delayed the 2020 season on March 12, and concerns of spiking COVID-19 infections have since halted the Greenville Drive’s plans for a re-opening.

“The Greenville Drive are devastated by today’s unprecedented announcement,” Craig Brown, owner and president of the Greenville Drive, said in a news release.  “Our staff has been hard at work for many months preparing for the Drive’s 15th anniversary season in downtown Greenville at Fluor Field. In partnership with leading business and community partners, we had several significant new events planned that would have been highly complementary to our popular and much anticipated annual events.”

In the meantime, Greenville’s minor league stadium, Fluor Field, will continue to host public and private events in line with safety protocols defined by the “Greater Greenville Pledge,” the release said.

“Initial events are likely to be small and intimate, but as we ultimately rebound from the pandemic, with Fluor Field set up as our community’s ideal social distancing venue, it is our hope that our community will eagerly return home to Greenville’s front porch” Brown said in the release. “There is nothing we want more than to see smiling faces once again at the ballpark.”
