A Greenville-based company with a continental reach in the service, engineering and remanufacturing of electrical, mechanical and power management equipment, has acquired a Canadian company that operates in the same field from Edmonton.

Integrated Power Services, branded as IPS, announced March 5 that it purchased Electric Motor Service Limited (EMSL), headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. The company has sold and serviced industrial electric motors and generators in western Canada since 1945, according to a news release from IPS.

The company also sells, services and remanufactures industrial and residential water and wastewater pumps. The acquisition includes sales and service facilities in Edmonton and Fort McMurray, Alberta, a pump-focused sales and service facility in Edmonton, and a sales and warehouse facility in Calgary, the release stated.

EMSL offers comprehensive electromechanical services, with engineering, testing and remanufacturing for AC motors up to 25,000 HP/13.8 kV and DC motors up to 10,000 HP. The company also services and repairs extra-large industrial water and wastewater pumps, including submersible pumps.

The deal strengthens IPS market coverage in western Canada, particularly in oil and gas, mining, and renewables, the company said in the release. The newly rebranded IPS service centers will offer industrial and commercial customers single-source capabilities in electric motors and generators, mechanical systems and power management. IPS will offer employment to all EMSL management and employees.

“My colleagues and I are proud to join IPS,” CEO Bob Knickle of EMSL said in the release. “IPS is the right home for our employees and the best company to serve our customers going forward. We look forward to being a part of IPS’s s growing North American network, continuing to provide engineering, remanufacturing and reliability improvements for all of our customers’ critical assets.”

IPS has the industry’s largest network of locations, with service centers, distribution centers and field service offices across North America, the company says.

“IPS has long admired EMSL for the solutions it provides customers, and we are privileged to carry on the business that Bob Knickle and the people of EMSL have built,” Jim Mugford, IPS executive vice president, said in the release. “Our combination will bring a greatly expanded offering to Alberta customers and a platform to introduce our offerings to Canadian customers in markets such as renewable energy and mining. We welcome our new colleagues to our journey to world-class and look forward to meeting our new customers.”
