DoughertyWhile the Greenwood SC Chamber of Commerce searches for a new chief executive, David Dougherty, vice president of investor relations at the chamber, stepped in as interim president and CEO on June 1.

“The board wanted to put in place a plan to provide a seamless transition to the next chamber executive who will lead the organization on a daily basis,” Sara Sears, chair of the board of directors, said in a news release. “The board has confidence in David’s ability to lead during our executive search.”

Angelle LaBorde, former president and CEO, resigned in April with plans to leave the chamber at the end of this month.

After 47 years working in the banking and finance field, Dougherty joined the chamber team three years ago. In his most recent position, he served as the vice president and commercial relationship manager of CountyBank.

“David is the consummate professional,” David Tompkins, Countybank’s Greenwood market executive and former chamber chairman, said in the release. “He has strong relationships within the business community and can assist the new CEO in connecting with key business leadership.”

Since working for the chamber, Dougherty helped raise more than $235,000 in a 2014 campaign and also serves on the board of Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity and the vestry of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, according to the release.

Swingbridge Consulting LLC has been recruited to search for the chamber’s future executive director.
