Finalists named for WhatWorksSC award

Listen to this articleThe Riley Institute at Furman University has announced three finalists for the 2018 Dick and Tunky Riley WhatWorksSC Award. The annual award, presented by the Riley Institute and South Carolina Future Minds, celebrates education initiatives for improving the lives of students across South Carolina, according to a news release.
This year’s finalists are:
- Charleston County School District’s Summer Teacher Residency, a program designed to recruit and retain highly effective teachers in high-needs schools.
- Farm to Belly (.pdf), a collaboration between Greenville Health System and Feed and Seed that emphasizes moving, learning and growing by cooking, shopping for and sharing healthy food.
- South Carolina's Coalition for Mathematics and Science, a Clemson University-based initiative that serves the STEM ecosystem statewide through a variety of programs.
The winner will be announced at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The event is open to the public and registration is $25 per person.
