Tri-County Technical College released a three-phase reopening strategy with plans to have operations in full-swing by Aug. 17.

“As a technical college, we play a critical role in jump-starting the economy, Galen DeHay, president of Tri-County Technical College, said in a news release. “We deliver a high-quality, affordable education, and we have excellent partnerships with local business and industry that will ensure we continue meeting the workforce needs of our communities. It is important we find a way to help our students stay on track academically and meet the goals they set prior to the pandemic. Reopening our campuses is one way to achieve this, but we will do so slowly and safely.”

In-person summer classes will resume June 19 alongside online offerings, and rooms will be limited to 50% capacity with additional social distancing measures in place, according the release.

The college has been sanitizing and disinfecting campus facilities, installing hand sanitizing stations, maneuvering room furniture to provide for social distancing, implementing barriers between queues and installing signage that encourages handwashing and distancing from others.

Phase one measures will encourage students, staff and faculty to wear a cloth face mask in common areas or when standing closer than six feet to other people. When returning to campus, students and employees will be required to complete a training course and weekly health screening measures, according to the release.

“The health and safety of our employees and students is our top priority. It is up to each of us to model safe behavior and follow the rules,” DeHay said in the release.
