Meals on Wheels offering Summer Foodservice Program

Meals on Wheels of Greenville is starting a new program this month called Summer Foodservice Program. From now to Aug. 3, Meals on Wheels will provide daily meals to three local nonprofits: Poe Mill Achievement Center, YouthBASE and the Meyer Center for Special Children. Snacks will also be provided for YouthBASE and the Meyer Center.

“Meals on Wheels of Greenville provides nearly 1,500 meals to homebound individuals and seniors every weekday, but we can do more,” said Nichola Bricco, director of nutrition and client services at Meals on Wheels of Greenville, in a news release. “Our kitchen is one of our biggest assets and it’s historically been empty for a large part of the day after meals are picked up for delivery by our volunteers. We now have the opportunity to utilize it to partner with other local organizations to provide children in our community with nutritious meals throughout the summer.”

Meals on Wheels received funding from the United States Department of Agriculture through the South Carolina Department of Education to finance the Summer Foodservice Program. Donations to the Meals on Wheels will still fulfill the primary mission of providing daily meals and volunteer visits to homebound individuals in Greenville County.
