Green Charter Schools will open a campus in Spartanburg this fall in the former Virginia College building. Virginia College closed in December, leaving the 50,000-square-foot building at 8150 Warren H. Abernathy Highway vacant.
Mark Ratchford of KDS Commercial Properties facilitated the $4.5 million sale of the commercial building on 5.88 acres. Blackstream International’s Shannon Donahoo represented Green Charter Schools.
The property was purchased, redeveloped and leased to Virginia College in 2011 and then sold to out-of-market investors, according to a news release.
Green Charter Schools teach students to weigh the pros and cons of renewable and nonrenewable energy and use a curriculum written by the National Energy Education Development Project, the release said.
