Greenville Jewish Federation Joins National Shine-A-Light campaign

GREENVILLE, S.C. – As the Jewish community in the Upstate prepares for Hanukkah this week, the Greenville Jewish Federation is taking part in a nationwide anti-Semitism campaign.

Shine A Light is a purpose-driven convening platform for organizations, companies, institutions and individuals to unite in shining a light on antisemitism in all its modern forms. Drawing inspiration from the story of Hanukkah, the Shine A Light initiative is fueled by an unprecedented coalition of Jewish and non-Jewish organizations from across the United States and Canada who have joined together to speak up about antisemitism and send a message that one single light can dispel darkness.

As part of this campaign, the Greenville Jewish will distribute custom-created window clings to individuals and businesses. The clings will feature the Shine-A-Light logo, the #StandUpToJewishHate blue square, and a QR link to a page to their website about Shine-A-Light. Learn more by clicking here or going to the website at www.jewishgreenville.org/content-feed-components/dispel-the-darkness.
“We need more light in the world to overcome all the darkness. There is no more appropriate time than during the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, to bring such light and attention to the rising antisemitism across the world,” said Courtney Tessler, CEO of The Greenville Jewish Federation. “These decals are available to anyone willing to show their support for the Jewish community and take a stand against antisemitism.”

In addition, the Greenville Jewish Federation will be taking part and promoting the following events:
• There will be a Grand Menorah Lighting on Thursday, December 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Hampton Station, 1320 Hampton Avenue Extension, Greenville. This will be pet friendly.
• Chanukah on Main will be held Sunday, December 10 starting at 4 p.m. at Noma Square in downtown Greenville. This is a partnership with Chabad of Greenville and the Upstate who organize the annual event.
• PJ Library will be holding a PJ PJ Hanukkah Dance Party for Jewish families, as well.
• The Greenville Jewish Federation is providing Hanukkah Education Resource Kits to Jewish Families to support cultural awareness, education on the holiday, and inclusion for Jewish students in their classrooms. The kits were first introduced in 2021 and supported by JFNA Shine-A-Light funding in 2022. The kits, available for Pre-K through 6th grade classrooms in private, public, charter, and homeschool co-op schools, include an age-appropriate book highlighting diversity and acceptance, a menorah for the classroom with a story about the Festival of Lights, and dreidels and gelt for each child.
More details on these events can be found at www.jewisgreenville.org.

“Each year we work as a community with our local Jewish organizations to increase the support and awareness for Hanukkah,” Tessler said. “Through partnership and with the support of the City of Greenville, we aim to continue expanding the inclusion of non-Jewish residents to stand side-by-side with our Jewish community in the celebration of the Festival of Lights.”

MD Care Group, ARCpoint join forces to provide fast testing, treatment of viral ailments

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Two Greenville-based companies are coming together to make it easier, faster and less expensive for patients to receive medical treatment for some potentially life-threatening ailments.

MD Care Group, LLC, which provide clients with a cost-effective way to access care from board-certified physicians, is collaborating with ARCpoint Inc., a leading US-based franchise system providing drug testing, alcohol screening, DNA and direct to consumer (DTC) clinical lab testing services, to launch a virtual first health system that makes it possible for clients to be tested for the flu, strep throat or COVID. Patients can log in and be connected with a doctor for a live consultation within minutes, and receive the proper prescriptions based on the diagnosis.

The Application Programming Interface (API) provides consumers with cost-effective, virtual access to healthcare through a national network of thousands of board-certified physicians and healthcare providers. The new API will allow ARCpoint customers to connect with MD Care Group’s doctors to discuss results from ARCpoint diagnostic tests or other medical concerns they may have, thus allowing for the creation of virtual primary care and urgent care centers anywhere ARCpoint services can be accessed. The two companies are also discussing the possibility of developing and deploying a second API which would allow doctors within the MD Care Group system to refer patients to ARCpoint testing locations.

“This is a new concept – it really takes direct primary care to a new level for our clients,” said Chris Cole, co-founder of MD Care Group. “As a result of this collaboration, patients can now get their lab test results back and be connected promptly with one of our board-certified physicians. This really simplifies the process and eliminates the wait times and cost of traditional healthcare.”

Under this new collaboration, customers can book a diagnostic test online at ARCpointLabs.com, at any of the 136 franchised locations, or by scanning a QR code on their mobile device at any of the Company’s participating affiliate partner locations. After a test(s) is conducted, the patient will receive a text or email notification of results and if requested, a video conference link for an appointment with an MD Care Group practitioner. Once the lab test results have been discussed, the practitioner can write a prescription if needed and it will be sent instantly to the patient’s pharmacy of choice.

“Our relationship with MD Care Group will make it far easier for ARCpoint customers to consume and access healthcare where it is most convenient for them and how they want. It will also dramatically increase the opportunity to expand our network by allowing us to offer access to virtual doctors through new affiliates, even if an ARCpoint franchisee location is not located nearby,” said John Constantine, ARCpoint’s CEO.

An API is a mechanism that enables two distinct software components to communicate with each other using a set of definitions and protocols. In essence, an API can be thought of as a contract of service between two applications. This contract defines how the two applications communicate with each other using requests and responses. Prior to the deployment of the API with MD Care Group, ARCpoint used its own network of virtual doctors to provide prescriptive authority, as required by law, to order the diagnostic tests selected by a customer, and then provide any necessary review of results before they were sent to the patient. Under this system, although ARCpoint provided general text comments about parameters related to test results, customers did not have the option to specifically discuss test results through a video system with an ARCpoint-supplied doctor. With the new MD Care Group relationship, the Company believes customers will be much better served by having virtual access to a network of medical professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. MD Care Group provides services to all 50 US states with consultations in English and Spanish as well as 85 other languages on request.

The whole process, from the testing for things such as the flu or strep to the consultation with a physician, costs the client a total of only $99, said Steve Koenemann, co-founder of MD Care Group, which provides services to all 50 states and consultations in English and Spanish as well as 85 and more other languages on request.

“We wanted the program to be cost effective for our clients. Now if you start getting those telltale symptoms of a sore throat or achiness all over, you now have a faster and more efficient alternative than going to the doctor’s office and then to a pharmacy,” Koenemann said. “You can have a virtual consult with your medical provider and get a prescription sent to your pharmacy in a fraction of the time.”

McCormick County 250 Project

We will soon commemorate the 250th Anniversary of America!! What an exciting time!

South Carolina played a tremendous role in the American Revolution. As part of a larger South Carolina State 250 Project, the McCormick County 250 Project (MC250) will highlight Revolutionary War era events, people and places in McCormick County. The goal is to promote and celebrate McCormick County’s role in the American Revolution as well as to expand area tourism.

A large gateway sign is to be in Willington to point out the many other relevant sites, people and events in McCormick County that were part of a greater effort to win our independence from Britain. Other sites to be identified and enhanced are the Fort Charlotte site, Battle of Long Cane, New Bordeaux, Guillebeau House, Guillebeau Cemetery, and Fort Boone among others.

The MC250 project is in its early stages. Tasks at hand for the MC250 committee include coordination with local, state and federal agencies, historical research, grant applications, funding for installation of historic signs, artwork design and text for graphic depictions, printing, securing adequate cell service for use of QR codes, and a whole host of other related assignments.

MC250 is the county affiliate of the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission (SC250). MC250 is a community project that requires skills and talents of every nature. The scope of the project is quite large and diverse. If you have an interest in volunteering your expertise or even helping with legwork as needed, your participation is most welcome. We are also seeking additional historical information/maps, volunteers, private and corporate donations to bring the project to a successful conclusion in time to celebrate July 4th, 2026, and beyond.
