Habitat for Humanity of Greenville took home two major honors at the annual SC Best in Business Awards this week.

President and CEO Monroe Free won Gold in the Best Non-Profit Executive category while the organization took home Silver in the Non-Profit Organization of the Year category.

“Monroe’s award is well deserved,” said LaTonya Phillips, Habitat Greenville’s board chair. “He is a great leader, mentor and advocate for affordable housing in our community.”

This is not the first time that Habitat Greenville has been honored for the tremendous change it has created in the Greenville community. Habitat earned a 2018 GuideStar Platinum Seal; a 2017 Engaged Community Partner Award from Campus Compact SC, nominated by Greenville Technical College; a 2017 EarthCraft Builder of the Year by Southface and the Greater Atlanta Homebuilder’s Association; a 2016 Greenville Home Builders Association Milestone Award for outstanding contributions to the community; in 2015, it earned Nonprofit Excellence Award, given annually by the S.C. Association of Nonprofit Organizations (SCANPO); The Greenville Chamber of Commerce honored Habitat with the 2015 The Max Heller Neighborhood Improvement Award; and it earned the S.C. State Housing Finance and Development Authority S.C. Housing Achievement Award in 2014.

“These are truly tremendous recognitions of the hard work our team does each daily in helping to transform people’s lives through the power of homeownership,” Free said. “At the end of the day, our work is measured best by that.”
