Salvation Army gets support from Food Lion

The Salvation Army of Greenville has received $1,800 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed local residents. The Salvation Army of Greenville will use the gift to purchase nonperishable food items for families who may not be able to afford the cost of groceries.

“As Greenville County continues to grow, the Salvation Army is seeing an increase in families who were recently financially stable and now need a supply of food items to sustain them until their next paycheck. As long as there is a need, the Salvation Army’s Food Ministries will be available,” said Maj. Pete Costas, area commander for the Salvation Army of Greenville, Pickens and Oconee counties, in a news release “We are very grateful for partners like the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, who make it possible to continue serving families and individuals who find themselves in a financial hardship."

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feed Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $10 million in grants.
