Chamber executive chosen for national fellowship

The Greenville Chamber’s director of talent and workforce solutions has been selected by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives to study economic recovery and resilience strategies with 41 other chamber professionals from communities throughout the United States.

Cheryl Garrison will be part of the Fellowship for Economic Recovery, an immersive executive development program that provides chamber of commerce professionals with education and tools to improve the post-COVID-19 pandemic outcomes in the communities they serve, according to a news release.

“Now more than ever, our nation and community face a growing need for talent,” Carlos Phillips, Greenville Chamber president and CEO, said in the news release. “The birth-to-career education pipeline is changing how we upskill and reskill our workforce. We are proud of the dedication Cheryl brings to exploring these issues on both a local and national scale.”

Throughout the year-long program, participants focus on addressing different aspects of economic recovery from education and talent to economic development to entrepreneurship. The curriculum will focus on strategies for building more equitable economic outcomes and creating economies that work for everyone, the release said.

“We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to this executive leadership training initiative and the high caliber of applicants,” ACCE President Sheree Ann Kelly said in the release. Kelly says her organization assists its members through various learning opportunities and best-practice sharing. “This is the latest step in our strategy to engage business leaders and advocates in shaping recovery efforts, building resilient local economies and creating opportunities for everyone in the community to thrive.”

Program participants are from 24 states, the release said.
