Commencement for Greenville Technical College graduates was held at the Greenville Convention Center on Friday, December 15. Included were 289 registered participants (additional students graduated but did not participate), 4 military veterans, 112 graduates with a GPA of 3.4 or higher, and 14 graduates with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Two students were honored for academics and community service at Commencement with President’s Awards.

President’s Award recipient Michael Dieschbourg is described by his instructors as outstanding in all respects. He goes above and beyond in his Accounting studies, is always willing to help the professors and other students, contributes to lively class discussions, and has maintained a high GPA from his first semester to the last.

His contributions aren’t limited to the classroom. Michael has attended an Accounting Advisory Committee meeting, providing valuable insight from a student’s perspective. He has also volunteered to prepare tax returns for the United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, serving as a key player in the success of the program, training and mentoring other volunteers, and contributing more hours than required. Michael takes on these volunteer opportunities in addition to his challenging class schedule while also working full-time.

Brandi Sloop, also a President’s Award recipient, is known for excellence. One of the top welders in her class for three semesters, she never settles for good, always pushing to be her best. Her efforts to succeed don’t mean that she pushes others down. Instead, she pulls her classmates up with her, helping those who fall behind and offering advice and helpful tips.

As a work study for Welding, Brandi takes pride in everything she does. She tackles any task that comes her way, showing confidence and enthusiasm as she proves herself to be an asset to the department, the School of Advanced Manufacturing & Transportation Technology, and the college.
