Greenville-based Spinx Co. raised $71,000 for local beneficiaries focused on serving children after a golf outing held in lieu of the company’s annual tournament.

The American Red Cross, Safe Harbor, Loaves and Fishes, Pendleton Place and the Children’s Museum of the Upstate all received a portion of the funding, according to a news release.

The event, a smaller, socially distanced golf match, was held at the Greenville Country Club in November.

“It was imperative that we still find a way to give to the organizations across the Upstate that need our support, especially during these challenging times,” CEO Stewart Spinks said in the release. “Although this year we were unable to host our typical celebrated charity golf classic, I am proud of our vendors and those that were able to still contribute and I look forward to hosting another successful event in 2021.”

Greenville YMCA expands food security outreach

Following the success of the YMCA of Greenville’s food outreach program to families in need in the Pleasantburg Drive and Interstate 85 area, the nonprofit’s Eastside Family YMCA has launched a similar program serving 70 families in the Greer and Taylors area.

The Eastside operation manages a group of volunteers to source, pack and deliver bags of food for people in need with help from other outreach organization, according to a news release. The Eastside YMCA plans to deliver more than 60 bags of food each week, funding the program with grants and funding from the YMCA of Greenville’s 2021 annual campaign.

“When we piloted the food delivery program in the spring of 2020, we had no idea how long it would continue, or how far-reaching it would be,” Diana Watson, chief philanthropy officer for the YMCA of Greenville, said in the news release. “The reality is that this pandemic has made it incredibly tough for some families to feed their children, and the need stretches beyond the area we’ve been serving. We feel it’s our responsibility as the YMCA of Greenville to continue to respond to that need.”
