Konnichiwa will occupy the space next to Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery at the corner of W. Main Street and Daniel Morgan Avenue. Floors two through five of the building are occupied by residential tenants of Main and Morgan luxury apartments, also owned by F.T. Cantrell Wagons.

“Retail and restaurants are on the upswing after COVID-19 shutdowns last year, and Spartanburg is coming back faster than most, recently hitting all major benchmarks for economic recovery,” Colliers brokerage associate Greyson Furnas said in the release. “We are seeing increased activity and a renewed interest in retail, restaurant and office sectors related to real estate leasing and sales in the Spartanburg area. The community really stepped up to support local businesses this past year and continues to foster a pro-business mindset that is very attractive for new investment. We are excited to welcome Konnichiwa as another great dining option in the downtown area and look forward to seeing them thrive at this location for many years to come.”

Konnichiwa owners chose to lease the space for the potential of high visibility and foot traffic as well as feedback from customers identifying Spartanburg as an in-demand market. The restaurant plans to open for business this fall, offering traditional Japanese fare like sushi, bento, hibachi and ramen for dine-in and takeout.
