The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport reports an increase in passenger and cargo traffic in May.

May 2018 passenger traffic of 196,894 was up 3.6% when compared to May 2017 (189,991). Cargo traffic rose 26.3% and passenger load factors were strong at an average of 84.7%, according to a news release.

“This continued growth is exciting,” said Dave Edwards, GSP’s president and CEO, in the release. “We are looking forward to seeing these numbers continue to increase with the addition of a sixth airline operating from GSP and additional cargo flights.”

In May, more than 9.7 million pounds of cargo passed through GSP compared to more than 7.6 million pounds in May 2017. Senator International, a German-based freight shipping and logistics company, added weekly cargo flights from GSP to Querétaro Intercontinental Airport. GSP also will be the entry point for 550 horses competing in this fall’s World Equestrian Games in Mill Spring, N.C., the release said.

GSP also has added new nonstop flights. Delta Airlines added two additional daily nonstop flights to New York City for a total of three. Starting Sept. 8, Frontier Airlines will offer nonstop flights to Denver, Colo., Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla. Frontier will launch new nonstop service to Tampa in November. Starting Dec. 19, American Airlines will offer two daily nonstop flights to Miami.
