Spartanburg Chamber composes revitalization task force

The Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce announced a Bringing Back the Burg Business Recovery Task Force today, with representation from local government, business, non-profit and community development leaders.

The task force will be co-led by Spartanburg County Councilman David Britt, chairman of the county’s economic development committee, and Kay Wood, owner and president of  J.W. Woodward Funeral Home.

According to a news release, the task force will use economic and tourism-related performance indicators to set Spartanburg’s economy on the path to revitalization in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group will create a business recovery fund, develop grant and loan criteria and investigate mechanisms for stimulating the economy and new opportunities for growth exposed by the pandemic. Task force goal suggestions from the wider community can be sent to [email protected]

“David Britt and Kay Woodward are two community stalwarts: proven leaders who know Spartanburg and our business community very well,” Allen Smith, president and CEO of the Spartanburg Chamber, said in the release. “We are honored to have their leadership influence on this process.”

Greenville’s also has a joint Business Recovery Task Force under the leadership of Greenville City Manager John McDonough; Mark Farris, CEO and president of Greenville Area Development Corp.; Carlos Phillips, CEO and president of the Greenville Chamber; and Greenville County Administrator Joe Kernell. That task force was announced April 23.
